The Maremma is usually a very hardy and robust dog who is not prone to illness or disease. He should be vaccinated against Hardpad, Distemper and Leptospirosis at ten weeks of age, with a 'booster being given at twelve weeks. Thereafter, a regular annual booster is required. Frequent worming is needed up to the age of six months and at regular intervals there after. The white coat makes fleas and other parasites readily visible and prompt action is called for when they are seen.
